Winter Equestrian Festival Dressage Set to Begin this Week


Dressage is said to be a sport of patience and dressage enthusiasts’ patience is about to be rewarded with the start of the Winter Equestrian Festival Dressage Series beginning Thursday, February 3rd and running through Sunday, February 5th at the Palm Beach Polo and Equestrian Club.

Wellington Dressage kicks off at 9:00 am Thursday morning with the FEI Intermediare II class in ring one. Rider’s in this first class will face stiff competition from a number of top international riders including Jan Brons, Marco Bernal, Lynda Alicki, Kathy Priest, Tara Stegen, Ashley Holzer and Shannon Dueck. And the Prix St George competitions in ring two will be equally daunting with a star-studded lineup including Betsy Steiner, Christopher Hickey, Dr. Cesar Parra and Hubertus Schmidt amidst over 30 entries.

Friday morning the Grand Prix classes get underway with even more of dressage’s heavy hitters scheduled to compete. Watch for George Williams and Marnix, Lars Peterson on Dansko’s Success, Ashley Holzer on Imperioso and Pierre St. Jacques hoping his Pan American Games medal mount, Lucky Tiger will again live up to his name!

Olympians, Anne Kursinski and Bent Jensen to Defend Their Title at Saturday's $25,000 Windsome Dressage/Jumper Spectacular


Saturday all four of the Wellington Dressage show arenas will be filled with the sport’s top international horses and riders and a bevy of newcomer’s hoping to take their place among the greats.

Saturday’s competition culminates with the $25,000 Windsome Dressage/Jumper Spectacular where as many as 28 riders pair up to win their share of the prize money. In this fun and exciting event the rider switch places, with the jumper riders riding a third level dressage test while their dressage partner’s risk their necks over a hit and hurry jump course. Each teams combined scores determines the teams placing.

Six-time winners, Olympians, Anne Kursinski and Bent Jensen will be back this Saturday to try and win the event for a lucky seventh time! This not to missed competition starts at 3:00 pm Saturday.

Sunday's the Crowd Pleasing Musical Freestyles


Sunday the crowd pleasing musical freestyles will take place in ring one from 9:50 am until 1:00 pm. Here, rider’s literally dance with their horses to musical selections that match the horse’s every step.

This event is the first to sell our at all major competitions, as Grand Prix riders set their sites on the League Finals and World Cup for Dressage in Las Vegas in April.

Similar to figure skaters, these riders receive scores for both their technical and artistic abilities. The musical style competitions are well worth getting up early on a Sunday morning for. After the competitions spectators can enjoy lunch and shopping on the showgrounds while the tunes from the musical freestyles still dance in their heads.
