The Virginia Dressage Association Celebrity Freestyle Salutes the Olympics

During the final weekend of the USEF Dressage Selection Trials to be held Friday –Sunday in San Juan Capistrano, along with the Intermediare Championships, The 5th Annual VADA Celebrity Freestyle, will be held in Keswick, Virginia, (near Charlottesville) at the historical Keswick Hunt Club Showgrounds, Saturday afternoon and evening, June 19, 2004.

Celebrities in film, television, news, and media, some who are watching Dressage for the first time, are invited to join official Dressage judges in the judges’ booth. They are instructed to judge each ride on ‘impact’ as the horse and rider teams perform Freestyle rides from the lower levels to Grand Prix.

DressageDaily’s Mary Phelps has been invited to join the ‘Celebrity’ judge’s panel, along with Eventing Olympic Gold Medalist David O’Connor, and the Chronicle of the Horse publisher Rob Banner as the members of the Equestrian media. The rest of the panel represents film and television personalities as well as two news anchors from Fox and CNN.

With “The Road to Athens” as the theme for the VIP Tent, the event will be the east coast cheering squad for the Selection Trials being held for the first time on the west coast. The event, which is not a recognized competition, is a fund raiser for the Christopher Reeve Foundation.

USDF President, Sam Barish, the announcer for the event will be keeping an eye on the results as they come in, informing an expected 1500 people who will be coming for the afternoon and evening event, full of exhibition Freestyles and ‘Mini Musicals’ on horseback.

Anyone who is in the Virginia area should come out for a night of fun and entertainment. Besides grandstand seating, there is picnicking on the lawn, and VIP seating with the celebrities, and a beautiful summer evening of fun, entertainment, and Dressage at its most entertaining.
