The United States Pure Resa Espanola Association (USPRE) is pleased to announce the winners of its first Wellington High Point Challenge competition of 2011 at the Wellington Classic Spring CDI. The USPRE High Point Challenge is open to all riders of PRE horses and awards are given to the top-scoring PREs at the four levels-i.e. Adult Amateur, Open, CDI, and JR/YR. USPRE devised the High Point Challenge to encourage owners and riders of PREs to show, and it appears the strategy has worked: at this weekend's show there were close to 15 PRE horses competing. This is a significant increase from the first years of the USPRE High Point Challenges when only a handful of PRE horses were showing in all of Wellington. Judith Streisand, owner of Cartujo VIII who finished second in Open FEI Grand Prix with a 65.106, with his rider Holger Bechtloff was thrilled at the recognition the USPRE is giving to the breed.
Up until grand prix, Streisand has ridden and competed her 15-year-old 15.3 gelding by Tejano III out of Cartuja, but decided to turn him over to her trainer to get him confirmed in the Grand Prix. “It has been a long journey to Grand Prix. Holger and I always had faith in our little boy, but it still boggles my mind that we made it! I was hoping that he would be competitive in the Grand Prix, but never expected him to place second in an Open Grand Prix in Wellington. I am very proud of my two boys!”
USPRE is happy to note as well that the scores of the winner's were highly competitive at their various levels, and that all of the winning combinations placed in the top 3 places in their classes at one of the most competitive shows in the Florida circuit.
USPRE is sponsoring their High Point Challenge at two more shows in the Florida Series--the Palm Beach Derby and the Gold Coast Finale. Another USPRE High Point Challenge Series will start in a few weeks in California, and then will be held at shows throughout the country as the summer progresses.
