The Nancy G.Held Equestrian Center of Albion College, Albion Michigan is proud to host two-time Olympic equestrian Debbie McDonald for their fall dressage symposium on Saturday and Sunday, September 19 and 20, 2009. Following Saturday’s symposium session, Albion College will host an evening reception with McDonald on September 19, 2009 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. This event will be held at Bellmont Manor, adjacent to the Nancy G. Held Equestrian Center, and provide the opportunity to take photos with McDonald and get autographs. Hors d’oeuvres will be served.
McDonald is best known for her longtime partnership with the chestnut Hanoverian mare, Brentina, with whom she represented the United States internationally in competition for nearly 10 years prior to their retirement in early 2009. Together, the pair secured team and individual gold at the 1999 Pan American Games, then went on to earn a team bronze medal at the 2002 World Equestrian Games, followed by a team silver medal at the 2006 World Equestrian Games. The pair also represented the United States at the 2004 Olympics in Athens and the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Debbie was also the first U.S. rider to hold the title of Dressage World Cup Champion.
In January, 2009, Debbie was recognized by the United States Equestrian Federation as their developing coach of the year. The focus of her symposium in Albion will be “Connection,” and she will use her experience and techniques to help eight demonstration horse and rider pairs enhance their abilities by improved connection through the horse’s frame.
