Top Riders Return for $25,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby

The Devon Horse Show, "where champions meet," is a venerated destination for hunter horses and riders; competing in the Dixon Oval symbolizes being among the best of the best, having earned the spot to be there. On Thursday, May 28, 2015, many of those best of the best will go head to head in the $25,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby.

Former winners of the $25,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby at the Devon Horse Show include top names like Jennifer Alfano riding the renowned Jersey Boy, who swept victories in the class three years in a row from 2010 to 2012, young phenom Tori Colvin and last year's winner, Kelley Farmer.

Farmer earned victory in the 2014 Hunter Derby at Devon aboard Mindful, clinching an impressive score of 95 in what marked just the beginning of what has become an extremely successful partnership. A brand new mount for Farmer at the time of their win, Mindful has since gone on to accrue top hunter derby victories around the country with Farmer in the irons.

"Every time I walk in the ring, if there was something hard, he's delivered completely," Farmer said of Mindful following her 2014 Devon victory. "He has delivered and delivered easily. He's so rideable. He's light on his feet, and he's so athletic."

Following their success last year, Farmer and Mindful are among the top combinations slated to return to the Dixon Oval for the $25,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby, scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 28.
