The World's Greatest Horseman has become one of the most prestigious titles in the western horse industry, and the contest is held annually during the National Reined Cow Horse Association Celebration of Champions in San Angelo, Texas.
Todd Crawford and Play Dual Rey were finalists in the 2010 World's Greatest Horseman, and with the first half of the preliminary competition, it seems that the NRCHA Million Dollar Rider and the reigning American Quarter Horse Association are poised to make a repeat appearance this year.
Crawford and the Dual Rey stallion, out of Hiccup N Play, marked a 216 in the herd work, and came back strong in the rein work to mark the high score of the rein work prelims for the second year in a row with a 223! Thanks to sponsorship from San Juan Ranch, Crawford will receive a beautiful Gist Silversmiths buckle and $2,000 for the go-round win.
Crawford and Play Dual Rey, owned by Play Dual Rey Partners of Whitesboro, Texas, have a half-point lead in the prelim composite over last year's World's Greatest Horseman Reserve Champions Doug Williamson and Hes Wright On, by Lenas Wright On out of Shesa Lota Nic. Hes Wright On is owned by Gardiner Quarter Horses of Ashland, Kansas.
The World's Greatest Horseman competition preliminaries conclude Friday, February 4, with the steer stopping and cow work. The top ten from the preliminary round will compete in the clean-slate finals, where the Champion will receive a check for $30,000!
The NRCHA Celebration of Champions, held at the 1st Community Credit Union Spur Arena in San Angelo, Texas, features the Circle Y Ranch Derby, the NRCHA World Championship Show presented by John Deere, and the NRCHA World's Greatest Horseman.
