Timmy Kees Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award

West Springfield, MA - October 21, 2014 - Each year, the New England Equitation Championships (NEEC) presents one deserving professional with the NEEC Lifetime Achievement Award. For 2014, that highly deserving professional is Walter "Timmy" Kees.

Kees, who presently trains for Norfield Stables LLC, was recognized on Saturday as an individual who has had a highly positive impact on the New England horse community, as evident by his talent as a professional, unselfish giving and a life long commitment to the horse industry.

"It just means that I logged more time on the planet than anybody else doing this," Kees joked. "But really, it's very flattering to be recognized by your peers that you've done your job as well as you can do it and that you're constant in your efforts. To me it means you never dialed it down. You kept trying to do the best that you could and hopefully it worked and was successful in some level."

Kees in fact has been successful in the very highest levels of the hunter and equitation divisions. He began his career early on when he started selling horses from the racetrack to George Morris and Ronnie Mutch. From there, Kees joined Mutch as an assistant trainer at Nimrod Farm in Weston, CT.

Since than, Kees' riders have won the ASPCA Maclay Finals, the AHSA Medal Final and the USET Talent Search Finals a total of seven times. Kees has also trained acclaimed hunters including Holy Smoke, Watership Down, So No Wonder, Castaway and Double Cinco.

In addition to his most recent honor, Kees has been inducted into the National Show Hunter Hall of Fame and has received the USHJA's Jane Marshall Dillon Award, presented to equestrian professionals who have devoted their lives to teaching and mentoring riders in the hunter/jumper discipline.

Kees is presently a USEF 'R' judge and a key component to the success of Norfield Stables, LLC.

While at the New England Equitation Championships, Kees coached Norfield Stables' student Ali Tritschler to the NEEC Reserve Championship award, while Tritschler's mount, Helio Rouge, was presented with the Judges Choice Award for best horse.
