Hugesville, PA- Gold Medalist Suzy Stafford continues her winning ways this summer bringing home the Novice Pony Division Championship at the Susquehanna Whips and Wheels Carriage Driving Show. The thunderstorms and heavy rain gave way to a wonderful weekend for the exhibitors.
“Llawen Taran” owned and bred by Jayne Treharne started the day off winning the Driving suitability in hand class showing he has the type and temperament for the job. Proving this throughout the day “Taran” dominated with the blue ribbon in the turn-out class as well as showing his trainability in the reinsmanship class with another first place finish.
“I am very pleased with the progress “Taran” has made with me in the past two months. He is a quality pony that is developing nicely with age and experience. I am looking forward to watching him blossom in the next few years as a riding and driving pony”. Stafford says.
“Taran” and Stafford finished the second day of the show with a dressage test, a cones round and a pleasure cross country drive. The courses were fun and inviting for the novice pony. The team’s consistency in the dressage test, smooth cones round and near perfect timing on the cross country brought home the division Championship for “Taran” and Stafford.
“I was pleased to see that “Taran” handled the overnight show and came out the next day ready to focus and go to work. I was delighted that “Taran’s” owner and breeder, Jayne Treharne, was able to ride with me on the cross country phase. She was a great navigator and kept us on track and on time for the big win”. Stafford said with a smile.
Suzy is known around the globe for her ability to harvest talent and develop horses and ponies for National and International competition. Stafford has been long list with the United States Equestrian Federation with eight different equines.
“I was happy to be able to give “Taran” the confidence and experience he needs in this stage of his training. He is for sale and will be a great project for someone to bring along as he has the talent, temperament and trainability for a lovely ride and drive partner” says Suzy.
