Stoufville's John Pearce and Harry Potter Work Magic To Win $50,000 Collingwood Grand Prix Equestrian Event

Collingwood, Ontario: Stouffville resident and Sydney Olympic Equestrian Team member John Pearce and his horse Harry Potter led the field from start to finish in the August 26th, $50,000 Town of Collingwood Grand Prix. This was the final major event of the two week horse show now credited with being Ontario's largest outdoor horse show which brings an estimated $10 million into the regional economy.

Pearce and his horse were the first into the ring and posted the first clear round over the jumps to set the pace for the remaining thirteen riders. In the jump off, six riders and horses braved the increasing rain but it was Pearce who once again set the time to beat with a no fault round over the shortened course in front of a damp but enthusiastic crowd.

At day's end, Pearce pocketed $15,000 for his two picture perfect rounds followed by Mac Cone in second place. Young Keean White, a member of Ontario's Young Riders' Team placed third and Collingwood co-chair and Olympic rider Jay Hayes with his super mare Diva were fourth. Hayes and Diva were first in the $50,000 CIBC Grand Prix presented by Jaguar Canada during the first week of the show and also drove away a Jaguar X-Type as winners of the Jaguar Triple Crown Series.
