On the Scene at the 2nd Annual Del Mar Classic CDI
In the CDI-W Grand Prix Freestyle, the dynamic Olmpians Steffen Peters and Ravel, once again dominated the limelight as Champions of the Del Mar Classic. Peters and Ravel, a 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood, danced to the music of the Rolling Stones along with a piano section from the soundtrack of Romeo and Juliet. Ravel once more showed excellent piaffe and passage and was in perfect stride to the music. The pair earned a score of 76.200% which secured the lead for the weekend.
Finishing in second place were Leslie Morse and Kingston. Kingston is a 16-year-old Dutch Warmblood stallion by Voltaire. Morse rode her powerful stallion to the music of the Pirates of the Caribbean earning a score of 70.450%.
Right behind Morse was Jan Ebeling on his lovely mare Rafalca. Ebeling and Rafalca, who just returned from the East Coast CDI circuit, said he was, “thrilled with Rafalca’s performance.”
This is the pair’s fourth CDI/W, as they did two on the East Coast and one earlier in the season on the West Coast. Ebeling also stated that he would love to earn a spot to compete with Rafalca at next year’s World Cup in Las Vegas. “My goal is to qualify for World Cup, but it is tricky with only two spots or possibly three. Anything could happen.” He went on to say, “Next year I would love to ride in Europe and do the Aachen tour.”
