On Friday, the riders of the international circuit were able to discover a transformed Caen. The showjumping of the Norman main city’s new facet is making an enormously good impression. The size and quality of the new arena allow high quality sport, and the French rider Simon Delestre (Prix Citroen), together with Michael Whitaker (Prix Région Basse-Normandie) inaugurated it with their victories.
With Orphée de l’Illon, Simon Delestre wins for the ninth time this year, five of those victories marked 5*. But in Caen, the rider and his young mare were the first ones to go, which aggravated the challenge. And from the beginning, it had not been evident that the couple would leave the other 47 contestants of the Prix Citroen behind. The winning margin of 3 seconds is a true demonstration of strength!
In the most important class of this evening, the Prix Région Basse-Normandie, a 1,50 m competition, Michael Whitaker and Simon were able to win a jump-off against eleven other contestants.
