Anyone who spends the winter in South Florida knows, that just as grueling the show and training schedule is, there are the parties, usually one for at least each night of a weekend during the show season. It was on Fred and Susan Gohl’s exquisite new 106 foot Lazzara motor yacht the Susanna Bella, docked in the Palm Beach Harbor that friends of the Wellington dressage community got together for a season send off, just before many headed out to the World Cup Finals and off to their northern summer locations. The Gohl’s purchased the Lazzara Yacht at the 2002 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, ordering “hull number three.” NASCAR champ Jeff Gordon has hull number two.
Susan Gohl, who trains with Lynda Alicki during the winter months, owns the handsome Hannoverian liver chestnut gelding L’Aviateur, sharing the horse in the Grand Prix classes. Gohl, who rides in the amateur division, also owns Flying Dutchmen Farm, in Barrington Hills, Illinois.
The Gohls were gracious hosts to their friends on a perfect Palm Beach evening in early April just before the Gold Coast Grand Finale where Gohl got in her final ride of the season. The “Susanna Bella” normally docked at the Gohl’s winter residence in Naples Florida, made the trip to Palm Beach with her captain and chef, specifically to play host to their east coast Florida friends. Guests were allowed to explore each room, all beautifully decorated with an Italian motif by John Regas, who also did their home interior. Joining Fred Gohl on the deck where there was also a hot tub, everyone enjoyed a dreamy sunset, fine wine and conversation.
“A lovely boat is so much more purposeful and fun when enjoyed by friends.” said Susan. A special thanks to the Gohls for a relaxing and enjoyable evening after a long hardworking winter.
