For the Dutch, Hickstead will provide the final chance to get nominated for the Dutch team at the EC Dressage in Windsor in August forthcoming. Dutch Edward Gal will be riding his exciting new big tour horse Moorland’s Totilas. He will be accompanied by the Dutch revelation of the indoor season, three times WC™ qualifier winner Adelinde Cornelissen showing her piaffe and passage miracle Parzival again after a pause due to an injury. Hans Peter Minderhoud will show Exquis Escapado, well known in the UK because of his former rider Carl Hester. The fourth Dutch to compete will be Olympian Imke Schellekens-Bartels riding her mare Hunter Douglas Sunrise.
While British international dressage events have struggled in the past to encourage big names to cross the channel to compete, due to the attractive prize money of €100.000,-, the highest ever for dressage in the UK, more European riders will cross the channel now. From Belgium Stefan van Ingelgem and Vicky Smits will compete. From France Marc Boblet and Julia Chevanne will cross the chanel. Polish Michal Rapcewicz will join the party.
The UK itself will be strongly represented by Laura Bechtolsheimer showing Mistral Hojris. She has been seriously working on a new Freestyle to music and Hickstead will be the promising debut. She will be accompanied by Maria Eilberg, Fiona Bigwood and Jane Gregory, who all three might convince team chef Richard Davison for their election as the fourth rider in the British team for the EC. After the winning Dutch and runner up Germany, the British won the third prize at the prestigious Nations Cup Dressage in Aachen recently. Richard Davison surely intends to maintain this position and win a team medal on home turf at the end of August!
The Exquis World Dressage Masters CDI***** at Hickstead will offer spectacular evening entertainment including the Eventing and Show Jumping Dressage Challenge plus Taster’s from Tanya Larrigan’s ‘Magic of the Horse’, the Dressage at Hickstead Quadrille and more.
Television and internet transmission (delayed) will be provided by www.horseandcountry.tv. Dutch Olympian Hans Peter Minderhoud will blog on this website.
New partner in the Exquis WDM as announced shortly before Cannes is NÜRNBERGER Versicherungsgruppe. During WDM Munich 2010 they will present the inaugural WDM Gala where they present the winner of the NÜRNBERGER WDM Rider Ranking an extra prize of € 25.000,-. Events that are taken into account for the ranking are Cannes 2009, Hickstead 2009, Palm Beach 2010 and Munich 2010. The WDM Gala presented by NÜRNBERGER Versicherungsgruppe will be a yearly celebration for which the international equestrian world will be invited.
The NÜRNBERGER WDM Rider Ranking is based on the FEI World Ranking points awarded in every WDM show multiplied by a factor 1.5. Quite similar to the factors used in show jumping where 5* events also give more world ranking points than 4* or 3* shows. The 2010 Finale of this Best-of-4 competition will be staged in Munich. To built up to a real climax Munich will be the only show where riders can gain double WDM ranking points.
Please find below the current standings for the NÜRNBERGER WDM Rider Ranking. Further info can be found at the WDM website:worlddressagemasters.com
