Verden, Germany - The first leg of the 6 year old dressage horses at the World Championships for Young Dressage Horses was won by Astrix (Obelisk x Olivi) and Emmelie Scholtens for the Netherlands. Last year's shiny champion of the 5 year olds from owners Peter and Marijke Perlee again was most impressive. Emmelie Scholtens rode the KWPN approved stallion easily forward and with a lot of swing. Astrix was responding at the aids of his friendly rider very accurate and obedient. The faultless test was rewarded with no less than 9.16. For the trot 9.2, the walk 9.5, the canter 9.2, submissiveness 8.7 and general impression 9.2.

The runner up position also went to a Dutch combination: Presidents Avanti (KWPN gelding by United x Farrington) ridden by Laurens van Lieren. The pair showed a powerful test without faults. Highlights were the walk (9.0) and the beautiful uphill and smooth flying changes.

The Westphalian gelding St. Emilion (Sandro Hit x Ehrenwort) and Dorothee Schneider were on the third spot, just ahead of the Rheinlander Lezard (Lord Loxly x Riccione) ridden by Matthias Bouten. Both horses were a pleasure to watch and very well ridden.

The First Danish bred horse Torveslettens Stamina ( by Stedinger out of a Carano-dam) under Andreas Helgstrand ended fifth. The mare had a very powerful and expressive trot, rewarded with the highest mark of the day: 9.4! It was a pity that the walk was not too impressive today.

The small final for the six year olds will be held tomorrow. It will be quite exciting because of the high quality of this age group. The three best of the small finale will earn a place in the big final on Sunday.

De Champ Small Final 5 Year Old Dressage Horses

The 5 year olds who qualified for the World Dressage Championships but did not mae it into the top placings for the Final had their chance to shine in the Small Final. The beautiful Oldenburg stallion De Champ (Daddy Cool x Caprimond) had a convincing victory in the small final. Anja Engelbart rode Paul Schockemöhle's stallion very well. He showed a good balance in trot, light feeted and a very uphill tendency in canter. All marks 9+ and the final score of 9.10.

On the second place another Oldenburg stallion Fürstenball (Fürst Heinrich x Donnerhall) ridden by Ines Westendarp. Fürstenball had a lot of expression in trot and was uphill in canter. He was not really steady on the bit. He scored 8.98

TC Beau Deux a KWPN mare by Ravel (Steffen Peters' Grand Prix horse) out of a Gouverneur dam was placed third. Her Dutch rider Geert Jan Raateland was very pleased with the test. There was more collection than yesterday and the walk was very good. Final score 8.04.
