Wellington, FL - As the Adequan Global Dressage Festival wrapped up, Rachael Hicks made the most of her last week of the competition season by earning the highest score of the entire week. The Horse of Course tack shop, an Official Partner and Sponsor of the winter show series, congratulated Hicks by presenting her with The Horse of Course High Score Award. The Horse of Course has used the High Score Award to reward top scoring combinations throughout the 12-week show series. The final title went to Rachael Hicks and her mount Don Cartier for their impressive score of 74.474 percent in the adult amateur FEI Intermediate 1 test.
The popular tack shop The Horse of Course is based in Claremore, Oklahoma, but sets roots in Wellington, Florida for the winter season. The shop’s mobile unit journeys across the country providing top quality, fairly priced products for all dressage enthusiasts while sponsoring shows like the Adequan Global Dressage Festival. Beth Haist, CEO of The Horse of Course, presented Hicks and Don Cartier with an embroidered cooler and tri-colored ribbon for their impressive performance during the last week of the winter show series.
"I think that it was a smooth ride beginning to end,” Hicks said about her test. “There were no low scores in it, and the judges commented that it was just very fluid. It was nice not to have ups and downs.”
Hicks had entered her nine-year-old Rheinlander stallion in the FEI Intermediate 1 test after not having the performance she had hoped for the day before. “We had a sticky day yesterday in the CDI where he got freaked out by the tents,” Hicks said. “I just happened to walk into the office yesterday and said, ‘Is there any way I can get him into the arena tomorrow? He needs to go back and have a confidence builder.’ And that is what we did today.”
Don Cartier’s confidence was obviously in good shape that day, as were his and Hicks’ abilities. They left the show ring with not only a better ride than the day before, but also with the highest score of the entire final week of competition at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival.
In addition to Don Cartier, Hicks competed with two other horses at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival. Now that the show series is over, she plans to head home to Kentucky to continue showing her horses there in May and spend time with her three children. Hicks trains with Grand Prix rider Caroline Roffman. “I’m very lucky,” Hicks said. “I have a great support system, great kids, and fun horses!”
As Haist presented Hicks with The Horse of Course High Score Award, she said, “We have been so proud to sponsor and support the dressage community and riders such as Rachael throughout the entire 2016 Adequan Global Dressage Festival season. Watching dressage athletes blossom in the ring is truly an honor, and The Horse of Course strives to encourage this talent to continue advancing in the industry.”
The Horse of Course is proud to recognize the achievements of successful horse and rider combinations like Hicks and Don Cartier, plus offer them the tack and apparel they need to help them look and perform their best in the show ring. Hicks looks forward to stopping by The Horse of Course for some shopping before returning to Kentucky.
