Positive Influences

Barbara Strawson - FEI Dressage Rider, Trainer, Instructor and Author

According to Barbara, “Horses teach you the most about yourself.”  At the same time, she credits Jill and Scott Hassler and Nicole Uphoff-Selke as central to her becoming who she is as a person and a rider. “You don’t spend 18 years with people without them having a huge impact on you.”

From 1990 to 2003 Barbara worked at Hilltop Farm in Colora, Maryland as the assistant trainer, where Jill was the farm manager and Scott the head trainer.  In 2001, she began training with Nicole Uphoff in Germany and spent the next three years training there with the Olympic Gold medalist.

During this time spent in Germany with her mentor and friend, Barbara observed the many qualities which she felt necessary to bring to her own business in the United States.  On a daily basis Barbara watched Nicole’s unwavering focus and determination combined with her love of horses, positive outlook everyday and respect for others.
