Popularity of American Quarter Horse Hits All-Time High

Amarillo, Texas - The American Quarter Horse Association today announced a record number of AQHA Memberships across the globe-336,457.

As reported in mid-May, AQHA has worked to enhance communication with its Members and provide exemplary customer service at the lowest possible fees.

"At AQHA, we believe our Members are the lifeblood of our organization," said Bill Brewer, AQHA Executive Vice President. "We are dedicated to providing each Member with the most valuable programs and services as well as incentives from our corporate partners."

Enhanced Communication
In 1998, AQHA introduced America's Horse, AQHA's official publication published bi-monthly and distributed to each AQHA Member, making it the largest equine publication in the world.

Also attributing to the membership increase is the speed, convenience and accuracy of the Internet. With most forms and applications available online, AQHA Members can work 24 hours a day, seven days a week if they desire-and AQHA is there for them.

"Our Members appreciate having AQHA at their fingertips," said Tom Persechino, AQHA Senior Director of Marketing. "We understand that our Members essentially work two jobs, their profession then at home. By utilizing our Web site 24-hours a day, our Members can keep up with the necessary paperwork without trying to catch us from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. We are there when they are."

And finally, in recent months first-time membership numbers have dramatically increased. Since 1994, AQHA averaged 1,250 first-time members and new horse owners a week. For the last several months, AQHA has averaged more than 1,400 new members a week. Ranging from new horse owners to horse enthusiasts, AQHA and the American Quarter Horse are becoming increasingly popular.

"We have worked at enticing horse enthusiasts to join AQHA," said Ward Stutz, Director of Membership Services and Public Policy. "Aside from valuable incentives provided by our corporate partners, we have been increasing membership retention-which has been a constant goal for our Association."

Membership fees range from $30 annually to a life membership for $300 and also are available for youth and amateurs.
