Wellington, FL - Tami Hoag introduced her loyal readers to her new book, The Bitter Season, at the January Shop Talk presented by ShowChic. Fans have been eagerly awaiting the next adventures of Tami Hoag's Minneapolis investigators, Sam Kovac and Nikki Liska. The January release of her latest mystery novel gave Hoag the opportunity spend an evening at the upscale dressage boutique ShowChic to discuss what it is like to be on a book tour, how she plans her writing process, and how it feels to follow her characters through the courses of their lives.
The Bitter Season finds Hoag’s long-time partners, dectectives Sam Kovac and Nikki Liska, in Minneapolis with separate partners and on different cases. Nikki Liska has decided to change her focus from chasing homicides to her two teenaged boys, who have developed lives of their own. Beginning work in the newly formed cold case division, she finds herself missing the thrill of solving murders and working with her old partner. Sam Kovac, who has continued to work the beat, is now working with his third new partner since Liska, and feels the loss of Liska daily. Meanwhile, another Minneapolis resident, Evi Burke, is living the life of her dreams after a difficult childhood. While Evi is happy with her husband and new baby, she is unaware that her troubled past is about to come back to haunt her. With a series of old and new murder cases, all three of these complicated characters’ lives will end up colliding in this new thrilling murder mystery.
Hoag, a distinguished dressage rider and a regular ShowChic Shop Talk guest for several years running, also took some time to give Shop Talk attendees an insider’s description of great mystery story writing and what it is really like to be on a book release tour. “The specific challenge with this book was incorporating three distinct stories into one,” said Hoag. When asked by an attendee what her writing process is like, Hoag laughed, “This particular book was 700 pages before I realized that I had to wrap it up! Because I have never worked off of an outline, sometimes these things get away from me.”
The January Shop Talk discussion turned into a party as Hoag was also able to celebrate her birthday a day early with all of the Shop Talk attendees. Guests were invited to bring Hoag fun gag gifts, and there was a special cake presented after Hoag did a book signing for those interested in commemorating the event with a hardcover edition of The Bitter Season.
With consecutive New York Times bestsellers, including A Cold, Cold Heart; The 9th Girl, and The 1st Victim, Hoag has more than 35 million books in print, published in more than 20 languages. Her first thriller, Night Sins, was made into a mini-series in 1997.
