Saugerties, NY - HITS is pleased to announce that Maria D'Angelo’s drawing “Back to the Barn” has been selected as the artwork for the cover of the 2010 HITS Saugerties Official Show Program.
D'Angelo’s "Back to the Barn" originated at HITS Saugerties during the 2009 season where she spent a lot of time photographing horses. "Last year I was snapping photos of horses in the ring when I turned my head and saw this gorgeous dappled gray coming at me on his way back to the show barns," said D'Angelo. "He had such a beauty about him that I knew I wanted to get a photo. I loved his coloring, his dark mane and the dappling on his neck and legs, and the angle that he was coming at me. I just knew it would make a beautiful drawing."
"My husband and I come to HITS often during the season. The show grounds are beautiful and for someone who loves to photograph horses, it’s like being a kid in a candy store," added D'Angelo.
The 2010 HITS Saugerties Official Show Program will be distributed throughout the spring and summer both at the show grounds, as well as throughout the community. The program features several compelling reads, including feature articles on Grand Prix Rider Tracy Fenney, HITS Sponsors, the new High-Performance Equestrian Foundation, equestrian families who share their love for show jumping and the historical Pfizer $1 Million Grand Prix that will take place at HITS-on-the-Hudson on Sunday, September 12. The program also contains lots of valuable information for exhibitors on where to eat, sleep and play during their stay in the Hudson Valley, including recommendations on great restaurants, comfortable accommodations and favorite area attractions.
In addition to gracing the cover of the show program, D’Angelo’s "Back to the Barn" also will be part of the first ever HITS-on-the-Hudson Equestrian Art Exhibition & Charity Auction, which features an eclectic collection of equestrian-themed artwork from both local and national artists. Artwork from the exhibition will be on display throughout the community from May through July. In August, the collection will move to Fletcher Gallery located at 40 Mill Hill Road in Woodstock, New York for a month-long gallery exhibition that will commence with an opening on Saturday, August 7. At the conclusion of the gallery exhibition, the collection will then move to the HITS-on-the-Hudson show grounds for a two-week preview leading up to the Auction on Friday, September 10. The Auction will benefit FAMILY of Woodstock, Inc. and draw exhibitors and art lovers alike, to enjoy an evening of great food and a thrilling auction where they can bid to own a piece from this special exhibition. Participating Artists will receive 50% of the proceeds raised from the auction of their work, while the remaining 50% will go to FAMILY.
"While I personally won't be at the auction for FAMILY of Woodstock, my piece "Back to the Barn" will be there to be auctioned off to benefit the charity," said D'Angelo "I felt in these hard times it would be a good way for me to help families that are in need."
D'Angelo, of Newton, New Jersey, is an accomplished equestrian artist that credits Sam Savitt, Roger Archibald, Robert Shufelt, David Bjurstrom and Karmel Timmons as her inspirations.
