OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – For the third year, the National Reining Horse Association will sponsor the Bayer/U.S. Equestrian Team Festival of Champions, presented by State Line Tack.
The twelfth annual Festival takes place June 20-23, 2002 at the USET Olympic Training Center in Gladstone, New Jersey.
The only event of its kind in the country, the 2002 Bayer/USET Festival of Champions will showcase competition in five equestrian disciplines - dressage show jumping, combined driving, endurance and reining. The nation's best horses, riders and drivers vie for USET Championships and the right to represent the United States in international competition.
The 2002 Bayer/USET Festival of Champions will feature the $100,000 USET Reining Championship presented by Bayer that will serve as the final selection trial for the World Equestrian Games, along with a CRIO Nations Cup competition, Futures Championship and Reining Young Rider Medal Final.
As part of its sponsorship, the National Reining Horse Association provides show management for the USET Reining Division of the Festival of Champions including entry processing, stall assignments, show secretarying and arena footing preparation and maintenance.
National Reining Horse Association Director of Operations and Events Management Chris Potter has been on hand for every Festival of Champions that has included reining and he sees this sponsorship as a great fit between the two organizations. "The sponsorship works well for the exhibitors, too, in that they're dealing with familiar faces and people who are familiar with the discipline," he commented.
Potter also pointed out the history-making significance of this year's Festival of Champions. "It's exciting to return to the Festival of Champions because it's a great show. But beyond that, it's great to know that it's the last step for selecting the United States team that will compete in the first-ever reining at the World Equestrian Games in September."
For family fun and entertainment at the Festival of Champions, there are equine demonstrations from the sport's leading professionals, falconry and blacksmithing demonstrations, a Children's Corral, a wide range of gourmet dining options and an outstanding Country Fair with top-qualify products for the home and stable from more than 70 vendors.
