Oklahoma City, Oklahoma - The third annual National Reining Horse Association Derby Spotlight Sale is scheduled for May 18, 2002.
The Derby Spotlight Sale, which takes place at the State Fair Park in Oklahoma City during the NRHA Derby, is a select offering of the industry's top reining producers, prospects and proven reiners. Proof positive of that came at the 2001 NRHA Futurity, when Rise N Shine Jac, a horse consigned by Fox Meadow Farm to the 2000 Derby Spotlight Sale, won the Intermediate Open Futurity Co-Reserve Championship. Purchased by John Rhineer of Morgan, Utah, Rise N Shine Jac was ridden to the Reserve title by Bub Poplin.
Selection for the sale is done by the NRHA's Derby Spotlight Sale Committee. Their assessment is based on pedigree, performance, records of the sires and dams, as well as a video appraisal of applications received through March 15, 2002.
The Spotlight Sale will be held in Barn 8, but horses may be viewed by buyers prior to the sale. They will be housed in State Fairgrounds Barn 1 for ready access, and a television/VCR lounge will allow video review of sale horses.
NRHA Show and Sale Department Administrator Debbie Drinko, commented, "We are still developing this sale. The past two years have been great sales for buyers to find quality horses, and that will continue as the sale grows. "
