Musical Freestyle and a Fashion Show of a Different Color Mark the Dressage at Devon Preview

Yes, there will be dancing, but the pair spotlighted on the dance floor at this affair will have 6 legs—and hairy ones at that! The Dressage at Devon preview party, Sunday, September 10th, 2006, from 4-7 p.m., will highlight the elegance of dressage, and that includes a musical freestyle or “dance” on horseback, as well as an unusual fashion show.

An historic estate, 72 gorgeous acres built by a prominent Main Line family in the age of style and grace, provides the perfect backdrop for Elegance in Dressage, the Preview Party for the 32nd Dressage at Devon Horse show which opens the following week. Says Preview Party Chair Eileen Johnston, “The venue alone will make this party a dazzling event. To be a guest at this magnificent home will be a real treat.”

Guests will also be treated to an exhibition performance by one of the area’s top dressage riders. Sahar Hirosh of Bucks County and his mount will dance to a medley of music, demonstrating some of the top-level movements of classical riding. “This stallion really turns on to the music,” says Hirosh. “You can see it in his expression and his rhythm.” Hirosh is a student of six-time Olympian Robert Dover.

In addition to the exhibition of classical riding, Malvern Saddlery will offer party guests a formal showing of luxe fashions for the barn and the avenue. Says owner Jill Apfelbaum, “This will be a real departure from your typical fashion show.” Professional models will strut down an Astroturf runway to the pumping beat of contemporary music. They will don the best of equestrian attire, as well as country lifestyle fashions for him and for her. Hirosh’s mount will also make an appearance on the runway. Apfelbaum’s shop, in the heart of Malvern, is known not only for the gear that the serious equestrian needs, but tailored street wear, home accessories and gifts.

The event is sponsored in part by The Springsteen Hotaling Group at Morgan Stanley. J. Scott Catering of Malvern will be catering the party. Tickets for the Dressage in Elegance preview party start at $75. For more information and tickets, call 610-745-1725 or 610-745-7139.

Dressage at Devon is one of the largest and highest-rated equestrian events outside of Europe, bringing together top competitors, horses, trainers and judges from across the continent and around the globe. Dressage describes a rider’s harmonious development of the horse in both body and mind to increase suppleness, obedience and strength. The result is a breathtaking blend of power and artistry. Considered classical horsemanship, the roots of dressage can be traced back 2,400 years to classical Greece. Competition, which can be seen in the Olympics, involves a series of movements based on a horse’s action, not unlike gymnastics or figure skating competitions. Dressage at Devon takes place September 26th through October 1st at the Devon Horse Show Grounds in Devon, PA. For information, call 484-358-5510 or go to
