Verden - A beautiful Easter bag was presented to the visitors of the Hannoveraner Verband's Verden March Auction on Easter Saturday in the Niedersachsenhalle. Top-priced horse Belaggio was the highlight of the lively auction. He was not only the number one of the collection, but with an auction sales price of Euro 62,000 also the top ranked horse of the sales statistics. Euro 17,914 was the average price to be paid for a futurity prospect from Verden.

The four-year-old bay gelding Belaggio by Belissimo M/Ehrentaz (breeder and exhibitor: Gestüt Hülsdau, Marl) already shined at the Hanoverian Riding Horse Championships last year. The outstanding dressage horse justified his reputation as the favorite and was sold at Euro 62,000. It was a perfect start for auctioneer Frederik De Backer who joined the auctioneer’s desk the first time to lead the auction with Bernd Hickert. The Belgian accepted the first bid from a customer from his home country.

The bidding duel for the most expensive jumper was just as exciting. Voodoo by Valentino/Contendro (breeder: Werner Wegener, Wunstorf – exhibitor: Torben Wegener, Wunstorf), born in 2012, is at the outset of a fantastic sports career with his path leading him now to the Netherlands.

The riding horse collection was an appealing mixture with interesting alternatives for all demands. Prices ranged between Euro 7,000 and Euro 62,000. Almost half of the 80 sold horses will leave Germany. There was a strong demand from Scandinavian customers. Three futurity prospects were sold to Finland, four to Sweden. 'The scheduling of the auction was perfect. Many potential customers used the Easter holidays to intensively observe and inspect the auction horses,' said Auction Manager Jörg-Wilhelm Wegener. "And here they come again, the first foals,' introduced auctioneer Bernd Hickert the some 40 first representatives of foals born in 2016. The price for the first foal was not exceeded any more: A stallion raiser and regular customer from North Rhine-Westphalia paid Euro 32,000 for the dark-brown Franziskus/Soliman de Hus-son Freelancer (breeder: ZG Meyer, Walsrode). The 41 foals were sold at averagely Euro 7,085.

The Verden March Auction was opened by the Grande-Prize award ceremony for the Celle state stud stallion Comte by Contendro/Granulit. Verband’s Chairman Manfred Schäfer and Breeding and Business Manger Dr. Werner Schade honoured his breeder Rolf Eggerking from Brinkum in the well-crowded Niedersachsenhalle.
