Mike Miller and Bucks Genuine Fever continued their winning ways at the National Reined Cow Horse Association Snaffle Bit Futurity in Reno, Nevada, winning the Non Pro Bridle Championship with a 291total.
In 2008 and 2009, Miller and the home-bred mare won the NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity Non Pro Hackamore Championships. The pair also won the 2008 NRCHA Derby Non Pro Hackamore title.
"She's just a great horse," the Big Piney, Wyoming, rancher said. "The ride was good. I was real proud of her. I had one spin I wished I'd done better but everything else felt good." The pair marked a 143.5 in the rein work and a 147.5 in the cow work.
Miller and his wife, Tara, own Bucks Genuine Fever's sire, Playboys Buck Fever, who is a Supreme Reined Cow Horse and has sired many other Limited Age Event and NRCHA Horse Show Champions. She is out of Nu And Genuine. "She's so easy to show - just like her dad. I've had a lot of luck with this mare. She's done a lot."
The Sunday, September 26, win came with a check for $4,043, a Bob's Custom Saddle courtesy of Target Constructors and Dave Archer, a Gist Silversmiths buckle sponsored by Pro Management and Cheryl Magoteaux, a C.R. Morrison NRCHA trophy, a Cinch monogrammed vest from Bob's Custom Saddles, Platinum Performance, and a C.R. Morrison commemorative medallion.
With a 289.5, William Cowan of Ardmore, Oklahoma, and Reward Me Please (Chic Please x Reward Me Peppy) earned the reserve title and a check for $3,177 along with a Cinch vest from Bob's Custom Saddles, Platinum Performance, and a C.R. Morrison commemorative medallion.
Fresh off their Intermediate Non Pro Bridle Reserve Championship at the 2010 NRCHA Derby, Jayson Fisher and Nu Cash Cutter, by Smart Cash Cutter out of Nu Cashlynn Rose, won the NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity Intermediate Non Pro Bridle Provisional Championship, marking a 141.5 in the rein work and a 147.5 in the cow work for a composite of 289.
"It was a wonderful run tonight," the Arroyo Grande, California, Non Pro said. "He's a great horse. I've had him since he was a 2-year-old. He was my first horse to show in the Non Pro as a Futurity horse and he placed in the Non Pro, the Intermediate and was the reserve in the Amateur."
Along with a check for $1,590, Fisher also received a C.R. Morrison NRCHA trophy.
Gary Schenck of Danville, California, and Im No Plain Remedy (Chex Out This Remedy x Plain Sugari) were the Reserve Champions with a 281.5, earning a check for $1,272.
Cindy Mendoza, wearing a pink shirt to honor her mother's struggle against breast cancer, won the Novice Non Pro Bridle title on CP Remedy, by Tangys Classy Peppy out of Miss Remedy, with a 144.5 in the rein work and a 142 in the cow work for a composite score of 286.5. This was Mendoza's first win at the Snaffle Bit Futurity, although the pair won the Novice Non Pro Bridle title at the Sherri Gilkerson Memorial Spectacular in May.
"My ride was great tonight!" the Calimesa, California, Non Pro said. "I think the rein work was the best I've ever done. My cow was a little tough but 'CP' held it together for me. I was excited I was able to think and figure out how to put it together. So it was great."
The Novice Non Pro Bridle Championship comes with a check for $2,070, a Gist Silversmiths buckle courtesy of Robbie Boyce Performance Horses, a C.R. Morrison NRCHA trophy, a Cinch monogrammed vest from Bob's Custom Saddles, Platinum Performance, and a C.R. Morrison commemorative medallion.
In reserve were Cheryl Smith of Ophir, Colorado, and King Ofthe Hen House (Gallo Del Cielo x Jacks Silver Light) with a 284.5. They earned a check for $1,656, a Cinch vest from Bob's Custom Saddles, Platinum Performance, and a C.R. Morrison commemorative medallion.
