The elite Trakehner stallion Hohenstein has passed away at age 23 at his owner's station Klosterhof Medingen on Monday 11 November 2013, following a "terminal illness." "It really is a difficult year for us," owner Theresa Wahler told Eurodressage. "We will miss our black beauty a lot." Born in 1991 and bred by Harry Bartsch from Gottingen, Germany, Hohenstein was by Caprimond out of Helena XIV (by Matador x Grimsel). He became a premium stallion at the 1993 Trakehner Licensing in Neumunster. He finished second in the Stallion Performance Test in Adelheidsdorf with a total index of 134.05 points. He had the highest dressage index of 148.29 points, but only got 102.95 points for show jumping (28th place out of 53).
