With the passing of each additional year in operation, Maplewood Warmbloods, LLC continues to strengthen and develop its successful breeding program. Owner Jen Vanover has a keen sense for making breeding decisions based on careful analysis with the intent to provide building blocks for the future of her business. She and co-owner Tommy Pushkal closed out 2015 with many accomplishments, including five outstanding weanlings and three youngsters starting under saddle. At the same time, they are ringing in the new year with a toast to their 2016 foals.
The 2015 weanlings are:
- MW Angelika (Franziskus X Welt Hit II X Rouletto), a beautiful bay filly out of Shannon Dueck’s international competition mare, Ayscha. Formerly belonging to a partnership between Jen and Shannon, “Angel” is now owned by a syndicate formed by four of Shannon’s clients. She shows abundant promise as a future competition partner for Shannon.
- MW Sir Espri, a stunning colt out of Maplewood’s MW El. St.Pr. Eclipse, a 1998 Elite Hanoverian Mare (Espri X Lemon xx X Trapper). Eclipse is also the dam of MW Fabulous (Furstenball X Espri X Lemon), the USDF 2014 Horse of the Year. Sir Espri’s full sister was fifth at Rastede in 2012. Jen expects him to be a wonderful horse to ride given his soft and willing personality.
- MW Dona Francisca (Franziskus x Lord Liberty G x Donnerhall), a 2015 Premium GOV Filly. She was Foal of Distinction and site champion at her inspection. Jen is so happy with Dona that she has chosen to repeat the breeding for 2016.
- Two weanlings recently shipped to Maplewood’s New York facility from Germany. MW Derringer is a 2015 Premium Dark Bay GOV Colt (Dante Weltino x Dylano x Sir Donnerhall I x De Niro x Rubinstein) bred by A. Weighaus, Vorwerk. He will be raised as a stallion prospect. MW Mona Caron (Goldberg x Sir Donnerhall I x De Niro x Rubinstein), also bred by Weighaus, is a 2015 Premium imported GOV filly. She is one of the first by Goldberg in the United States. Both weanlings are from the damline of the 2015 Reserve Champion Stallion in Oldenburg. This famous Silberranke (Hannover Stutenstamm 4193502 (Schridde 1149)) damline has produced numerous licensed stallions and top mares.
In addition to the excitement surrounding the 2015 foal crop, Jen and Tommy are delighted by the talent of three youngsters starting under saddle. MW I’m The Lady Texel is a 2013 Premium KWPN filly (Charmeur x Krack C x Farmer) bred by MF Stud. Jen notes that Krack C semen is very difficult to acquire in the United States, which makes this lovely filly particularly exciting. MW Cilla Amour (San Amour X De Niro X Hill Hawk xx) is a 2013 Premium GOV filly bred by M. Strohm. Her damline produced the famous line of licensed stallions Welt Hit I-IV. Ave Maria (Glock’s Voice x Fidertanz x Harvard x Grunstein II), bred by Nancy Holowesko, was 3rd in the 2013 East Coast Foal Championships and received an 83% at Dressage at Devon. Glock’s Voice semen is no longer available in the United States, adding an exclusive element to Ave Maria.
Looking forward into 2016, Jen and Tommy eagerly await their anticipated foal crop. This includes a repeat breeding, as mentioned above, of Maplewood’s 2015 Premium GOV and Foal of Distinction filly Dona Francisca (Franziskus x Lord Liberty G x Donnerhall). Also on the way is a Furstenlook foal out of MW El. St.Pr. Eclipse. And last, but certainly not least, MW Sp.Pr.C. Weiss Schwarz, a 2010 Special Premium black GOV Mare (Sir Donnerhall I x Feiner Stern x Aktuell) is in foal to Gray Flannel for June 2016.
