Kemmer's philosphy is self described as "Classical and Individual" as she delivers the classical principals in a way that will benefit each individual horse and rider. This clinic boasts a wide variety of top riders from across the region, special packages for auditors, additional educational events, drawings for top quality items, and a Saturday evening dinner where everyone will have the chance to meet Heike and watch her Olympic winning rides.
If you missed the convention this year don't miss this fantastic opportunity to learn from an Olympic champion and outstanding trainer in the wonderful setting!! Stargate was the home of the USDF Symposium with Lisa Wilcox and Ernst Hoyos and will provide both riders and horses with great comfort while they learn.
On January 22-25, 2009 German Olympic Gold Medalist and 2008 Individual Bronze medalist Heike Kemmer will travel to Texas to give a clinic. The clinic is organized and sponsored by Lyndon Rife Dressage and will be held at Stargate Sporthorses in Argyle, Texas.
Heike Kemmer is a staple of the International dressage competition scene. She won the 1983 Individual and Team Gold Medals at the European Young Rider Championships and then moved into the professional ranks. She has been in the top ten places at the German Championships since 1984 and has earned four bronze and silver, and the Gold medal in 2005 and 2006. She has brought many horses to Grand Prix and her most famous partners are German team mounts Albano and Bonaparte. Bonaparte has earned the 2004 and 2008 Olympic team Gold medals, the 2008 Individual bronze, and the team Gold at the 2006 World Equestrian Games.
Philosophy: Individual and Classical
Following the history of dressage riding one realizes that much has changed in the course of time. But the classic training methods remain valid to this day. The guidelines for systematic dressage are established, but the individual needs of the horses must also be complied with. There is no ideal way without any problems, no "generally applicable method".
Heike Kemmer runs her training stable in accordance with the classic way of riding. Thanks to the longstanding cooperation with renowned teachers like General Albert Stecken, Herbert Rehbein, Johann Hinnemann, Holger Schmezer and Ulla Salzgeber she acquired the knowledge necessary to foster each horse according to its special abilities. Though she is focused on International Grand prix competition she regards the varied and lengthy training of young horses as a special challenge. As this development never reaches an end, there is always something which can be formed or improved, and Heike constantly connects new methods with the basics of classical training. "I am always open to new ideas and like to try things. If I realize that little changes in the equipment or course of training make my horses feel better I stick to it and am pleased about the progress". To this day she takes every opportunity to profit from the experience and the knowledge of others.
As a testament to her training ability she has not only brought her Olympic medal winning Bonaparte to Grand Prix success she has many other champions who have won for her and other riders. She trained and competed Beauvalais to Grand Prix prior to his becoming Beatriz Ferrer-Salat’s World Equestrian Games medal winner and is currently developing the stallion Royal Rubin into an International champion. In 2008 he won a special prize for being the “Best Derby Horse” at a competition where he contested the Grand Prix under Heike as well as Isabell Werth and Kristy Oatley Nist and was the most consistent horse. She is currently collecting points to qualify for the 2009 World Cup with Royal Rubin.
Finding a trainer for trainers is no easy task. Lyndon Rife had the opportunity to clinic with Heike in 2007 and instantly felt at ease with her training. “Not that it was easy, as Heike is demanding, but she has an excellent way of challenging the horses and riders with pressure, and knowing when to take it off and relax to find the best result.”
Rife has had the great fortune to ride with and learn from top Olympic riders and trainers such as Michelle Gibson, Ulla Salzgeber, and Rudolph Zeilinger so finding someone to follow those individuals is not easy. He knew that he wanted someone correct, determined, honest, and interested without being an extremist. Heike’s philosophy of “classical and individual” fit the bill to perfection.
Many of the spaces in the clinic have been filled with the top professionals from across Texas and Rife hopes that this event will not only be a positive for him but for everyone involved. Better training for the trainers will benefit everyone in the region and helping to develop a stronger and more competitive region has been a long time goal. He is honored that Heike has agreed to come back to Texas and work with him and is planning many special features for the clinic. The clinic will not be hosted at his home base of Southern Comfort Farm in Aubrey, Texas but at Stargate Sporthorses in Argyle, Texas. While it was a hard decision to move the clinic, Stargate has more stabling, parking, protection from the elements, and spectator seating, as well as being close to DFW International Airport. Stargate Sporthorses was the host of the USDF Symposium with Lisa Wilcox and Ernst Hoyos. The clinic is open to auditors each day with lunch and special discounts available to those who register ahead, there are also discounts for the host hotel. There will be special events and drawings for top quality merchandise from sponsors Schleese Saddlery and a Saturday evening dinner at the host hotel. During dinner riders and auditors alike will have the opportunity to meet Heike and watch her Olympic medal winning rides.
