The first dressage competition of 2009 on the DressageDaily/PhelpsPhoto Tour begins Friday, January 9, and the Palm Beach County Jim Brandon Equestrian Center, the popular location for the Wellington Classic Dressage Series, and the Gold Coast Dressage Shows. A full roster of entries with judges Charlotte Bredahl “S”, Dinah Babcock "S”, and Thomas Poulin “S”, will be on hand to start the busy Dressage in Florida Season.
A large number of entries in the FEI divisions are expected as well as a growing list of amateurs competing for top honors in the Markel Amateur Challenge presented by DressageDaily’s own Mary Phelps-Hathaway, A Markel Equine Insurance specialist. Markel is a trusted and respected name in the often volatile world of equine insurance coverages, with over 40 years of uninterrupted insurance coverage in the equine world. Visit the insurance section of dressagedaily for more information on trainer liability, horse mortality, and medical and surgical coverage.
A long time equine insurance specialist with Markel, Phelps-Hathaway continues to give to back to the sport of dressage through sponsorships and her websites. "Markel has been very supportive of our work, on the scene and on the road.” commented Phelps-Hathaway. “Because we can see so many of our clients and future clients at the shows, we can continue to help them and the sport by being a real person to work with, not just a voice on the phone.” “Being asked to join the Markel group 6 years ago was a great honor and a position we take very seriously and treat with respect and responsibility.” adds Phelps-Hathaway. Markel has proven their dedication to dressage in their sponsorships which include the USEF National Young Horse Dressage Championships and more.
"We are ready to roll and looking forward to seeing everyone!” said Phelps-Hathaway. “We just got here from our summer base in Kentucky and I have to say the 80 degrees days are about as perfect as you can get!”
The Markel Amateur Challenge 2009 will keep track of all results of amateurs competing at the Wellington Classic and Gold Coast Dressage shows listed below, with the final results and awards to be held at the Gold Coast Grand Finale April 12. To be in contention for this award, competitors need to compete in three of the five shows listed. In addition, the trainers of top placed amateurs will also be recognized with the Thin-Line Trainers’ Award presented at the end of the series.
