Ottawa, Ontario — Jump Canada has selected Lauren Hunkin as the CAVALOR 'Athlete of the Month' for May. Hunkin of Kemptville, ON, won the $25,000 Grand Prix of St. Lazare held Saturday, May 29, at the 36th Annual Pépinière and St. Lazare Horse Shows in St. Lazare, QC.
Riding Larry 0146, a 12-year-old black Oldenburg gelding owned by Synergy Farm, Hunkin was among the six riders from a starting list of 22 competitors to return for the jump-off. The pair posted the fastest double clean effort, crossing the timers in 36.75 seconds, for the win.
In addition to winning the Grand Prix of St. Lazare, Hunkin and Larry 0146 also finished second in the $10,000 Pépinière Grand Prix on May 23. “We have been working really hard on getting our business up and running, so it was a great reward to win in St. Lazare,” said Hunkin, who operates Synergy Farm in Kemptville, ON, with Mark Struthers. “Larry is a phenomenal athlete and a fun partner to work with. He always gives me his best.
“It is an honour to be recognized for this award, and I would like to thank Cavalor for their continued support of our Canadian equine industry,” added Hunkin.
