Laura Chapot Sweeps Friday Features at I Love New York Horse Show

Lake Placid, New York - July 5, 2013 - Laura Chapot of Neshanic Station, NJ, won the Lake Placid Convention and Visitors Bureau 1.40 meter Speed Challenge and the Lake Placid Lodge 1.35 meter Power and Speed Stake, Friday's two featured classes at the 36th annual I Love New York Horse Show, Presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC.

In the Speed Challenge, Chapot rode Castellana to the fastest fault-free time of 53.908 seconds to claim the win over Todd Minikus of Loxahatchee, FL who finished second with a time of 55.307 seconds on Udonnay Z.

In the Power and Speed Stake, she rode Umberto to the win, completing the power portion of the course fault-free and then finishing the speed section clean in 35.919 seconds.  Second place went to 1996 Olympic team Silver Medalist Peter Leone of Greenwich, CT who finished in 36.322 seconds on Wayfarer.

Other winners on Friday included Michael Hughes on Winchester in the Adirondack Flying Service 1.30 meter Power and Speed Stake and Philip Richter on Ray Ray in the  High Amateur-Owner speed class.

The I Love New York Horse Show continues through Sunday, hosting all levels of competition from young children on ponies to grand prix competitors and Olympic medalists, all competing for over $535,000 in prizes. The horse show begins at 8:00 am each day, with competition running in four rings simultaneously.

Highlighting the week is the $100,000 Woodlea Farms Grand Prix Presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC on Saturday afternoon.  This is the first time the horse show is offering a $100,000 Grand Prix!

Prior to the Grand Prix, the horse show hosts its annual Doggie Costume Contest sponsored by Animal Planet and the Brown Dog Cafe and Wine Bar.  All people with a leashed dog in costume are admitted to the horse show free of charge.  All entrants in the contest, which begins at 12:00 noon, receive treats.

Sunday's highlight is the $15,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby presented by Eastern Hay & Grain and Purina Animal Nutrition. This event, held in the Richard M. Feldman Grand Prix Field, features jumps that resemble natural obstacles seen in the hunt field with a variety of challenges including stone walls, hedges, logs, banks and ditches.
