Ottawa, Ontario — Jump Canada has selected Karen Sparks of Kanata, ON, as the CAVALOR 'Athlete of the Month' for June. At the Spruce Meadows “Skyliner” Tournament, held June 23–27 in Calgary, AB, Sparks claimed two major victories. The 29-year-old athlete won the $5,000 1.30m Ashcor Final Four riding Victoria, an eight-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare, as well as the $10, 000 1.40m Riddell Family Final Four with Ferraro K, an eight-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding. Both horses are owned by Brookstreet Stables Corporation.
Run in a unique format similar to the World Championships, the Final Four sees each qualified athlete complete the course first with their own horse, followed by each of the other three qualified horses. In the $5,000 1.30m Ashcor Final Four, Sparks incurred 10 faults over the four rounds for the win. In the $10, 000 1.40m Riddell Family Final Four, Sparks had a total of 12 faults over four rounds for the victory.
“My horses did very well at Spruce Meadows,” said Sparks, who trains with nine-time Canadian Olympian Ian Millar at Millar Brooke Farm in Perth, ON. “My young horses were fantastic in the amateur classes during the “Skyliner” Tournament. Victoria and Ferraro K qualified for the final four in their respective heights and both horses won the Finals. I am very pleased."
"I am so grateful to have Cavalor support our sport,” continued Sparks. “It is because of their products that my horses perform so well.”
As the CAVALOR 'Athlete of the Month' for June, Sparks receives a gift certificate from title sponsor CAVALOR Inc.
