Jon Roeser Leads 2009 Snaffle Bit Futurity Open Herd Work Prelims on Respond Lika Fox

The largest National Reined Cow Horse Association produced event, the 2009 Snaffle Bit Futurity, kicked off September 21 in the Biggest Little City in the World - Reno, Nevada. As the largest and most profitable event of its kind, the Snaffle Bit Futurity, held at the Reno Livestock Events Center, has become the must-attend event for reined cow horses. This year, the Snaffle Bit Futurity features 244 Open entries, all vying for a piece of the over-$1 million purse.

The gamble of training and showing a reined cow horse all the way to a Snaffle Bit Futurity win is a long shot and takes an incredible amount of skill and a lot of luck. As the first day of herd work preliminary competition began, luck and fortune favored some participants, but hindered others.

Rising above the competition was draw number 43 - Jon Roeser and Respond Lika Fox. The NRCHA $1 Million Rider and the stallion marked an incredible 222 - the current high score by four points. Owned by Clear Lake Land & Cattle Ranch, Respond Lika Fox is by Heart Of A Fox and out of SPD Remedys Response. Roeser is a former Snaffle Bit Futurity Open Champion, and a three-time Snaffle Bit Futurity Reserve Champion. He has also won the NRCHA's World's Greatest Horseman twice, and over $100,000 of his career earnings came on Heart Of A Fox.

Leading both the Intermediate and Limited Open divisions with a 214.5 is Casey Branquinho on Wranglin Reminicky. By Starlights Wrangler and out of Nic N Chic, Wranglin Reminicky is owned by Holy Cow Performance Horses LLC.

Open herd work preliminary competition continues through Tuesday, September 22. The Open finalists will be decided Saturday, September 26, after the completion of the rein and cow work.  Complete results can be found on www.nrcha.com.
