Ottawa, Ontario — John Pearce was named the CAVALOR 'Athlete of the Month' for January. Pearce, who is originally from Stouffville, ON, kicked off the six-week HITS Thermal Desert Circuit in Thermal, CA, with victories in both the $25,000 SmartPak Grand Prix and the $50,000 EMO Grand Prix during the first week of competition held January 25-30, 2011.
On January 28, Pearce took first and second places in the $25,000 SmartPak Grand Prix. Pearce claimed the victory riding his 2010 World Equestrian Games mount Chianto, a 15-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding owned by Alison Moore, and placed second aboard Son of a Gun.
Two days later, Pearce topped the class of 37 entries in the $50,000 EMO Grand Prix, presented by Pfizer Animal Health, riding Son of a Gun, Forest View Farm’s 12-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding. Riding third in the jump-off order, Pearce and Son of a Gun clocked a clean, fast time of 43.797 seconds for the win.
“I am extremely pleased with my two horses. They have been quick to get in the groove outdoors, and it was a great start to the circuit that I hope I can maintain,” said Pearce. “I think it is wonderful that Cavalor sponsors Canadian show jumping.”
As the CAVALOR 'Athlete of the Month' for January, Pearce receives a gift certificate from title sponsor CAVALOR Inc.
