Jersey Boy and Jennifer Alfano Steal the Show in the Sanctuary High Performance Working Hunters

Wellington, FL - March 31, 2011 - It is the last Thursday of the 2011 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival, and with it came numerous championships awarded in the various Green Hunter divisions, which are wrapping up this afternoon. The Sanctuary High Performance Working Hunter division was among those divisions coming to a close today. With a total of nine entries in the division, Jennifer Alfano and Jersey Boy took home the tricolor honor in their first and only week at the 2011 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival.

Jersey Boy, a nine-year-old Hanoverian Gelding by White Star, won three of the division's five classes and placed sixth in the under saddle to secure the championship this week. Jersey Boy is an entry of the SBS Farms out of Buffalo, New York.

Alfano brought two mounts for the $50,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby this week: Jersey Boy, and Miss Lucy, an entry of Helen Lenahan. "My week has been great so far. All of my horses have been really good, but I hope I haven't used up all of my luck before the Derby," laughed Alfano.

The main objective for Alfano in coming to the FTI Winter Equestrian Festival was showing in the $50,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby. When asked about how she prepared for one of the biggest hunter events in the country, Alfano explained, "Miss Lucy was champion in the Second Year Working Hunters, and Jersey Boy was just champion in the High Performance Working Hunters, so hopefully they're ready!"

The reserve champion this week in the Sanctuary High Performance Working Hunters was awarded to Taken, an entry of Nancy Amling from Palm Beach, Florida. Kelley Farmer had the ride for Amling aboard Taken, an eight-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding. Taken placed second in two classes and third in three classes to secure the reserve tricolor award during this final week of the winter season.
