Jane Gaston and Lumiere Are Amateur-Owner 36 & Over Hunter Champions

Wellington, FL - The Amateur-Owner 36& Over Hunter Division wrapped up today at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center, home of the 2010 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF). Jane Gaston rode her own Lumiere to the championship today.

Jane Gaston comes all the way from The Plains, Virginia to compete her mount Lumiere here at the FTI WEF. She keeps the horse at home, but trains with Larry Glefke of Lane Change Farm.

Gaston found the nine-year-old Oldenburg gelding in Maryland at Bob Crandall's Farm. The pair has been together for five years and Gaston describes her horse as "Just an all-around good guy."

She continued, "His favorite thing to do is ride around in his trailer with me doing errands." This week the pair rode to a victory in the Handy Hunter class and received top placings in every class of the division.

As for upcoming plans, Gaston will continue to show Lumiere in the Amateur-Owner Hunters and on occasion the gelding will show in the Regular Conformation classes.

The Reserve Champion of the division went to Don Graves on his mount Cologne, who won after a hack-off for a three-way tie.

In yesterday's equitation competition, there were multiple winners, including: Abigail McArdle and Jessica Springsteen in sections of the USEF Platinum Performance Show Jumping Talent Search; Charlotte Jacobs, who scored a 92 to win the WIHS Equitation Classic jumper phase; and Meredith Darst in the USEF Pony Medal.

Tomorrow's action concludes week eight of the 2010 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival with a full schedule of hunter divisions, including amateur, junior, children's, adult, and pony hunters.
