Unfortunately the quest of Irish rider Anna Merveldt for Olympic dressage ranking points has run into a problem after a personal best score of 75.72% with Coryolano in Vienna three weeks ago. Her personal record at that show was an all time record score for an Irish rider at big tour international level. This week Anna Merveldt had to withdraw from Salzburg CDI4* following a car accident in Milan on the 17th of November. Another car crashed into her car as she was driving out of the yard. Her injury did not become apparent for ten days. However she was diagnosed with broken rib (number 5) below her left arm last Monday. Anna was told to stop riding as she risked puncturing her lung.

Now Merveldt will be out of action for at least a couple of weeks. Italian-based Anna Merveldt is the 3rd highest individual from a non team qualified country in Olympic Group A As at 8/11/2011 the list was - 26. Sirl Helljesen – Dorina [NOR] (1716 points), 38. Mikaela Lindh – Skovlunds Mas Guapo [FIN] (1647 points) & 41. Anna Merveldt – Coryolano [IRL] (1611 points).
