Interested in learning more about driving your horse/pony and how to begin? Even for the seasoned competitor, this class offers information of value. The 2015 Metta Baxter Driving Class will be held February 7-8. The class, offered by Santa Fe College (Gainesville,Fl), is held each year at the University of Florida Horse Teaching Unit. Members of Florida Whips volunteer their time and expertise to put on the class which is offered to new drivers and equestrians interested in learning to drive. Saturday starts with coffee and donuts followed by a morning of didactic lectures covering safety, harnesses, bits and carriages. This year's professional trainer will be Fred Merriam who will demonstrate how to ground drive and start a horse. Sunday concludes with a driving demo followed by hands on experiences with harnessing and actually driving horses, ponies and minis under the careful tutelage of volunteers.
