Albuquerque, NM - Horses Unlimited is proud to announce the approval of their RPSI stallion, Leonberg, for breeding by the German Hanoverian Verband. This well-known, international competitor is one of a few American-owned and based stallions to receive such prestigious recognition. Leonberg was inspected while competing at the CDIO Aachen as a member of the Danish national team. The Hanoverian Verband awarded this unique stallion a license for breeding in Europe, and their sister organization, the American Hanoverian Society, will honor the decision here in the United States. Leonberg will be available for the 2011 breeding season to approved mares via fresh semen.
Leonberg's lineage combines the legendary Thoroughbred blood of the great Nasrullah, grandsire to Secretariat and Ruffian, in his top line with the undeniable influence of the "Stallion of the Century," Ramiro Z on his bottom line. Approved by the Hanoverian Verband for both his unique pedigree and athletic prowess, Leonberg is passing his heritage along, consistently producing beautiful movers and talented athletes.
Recent foal crops have been exceptional, earning Gold Premium awards from the RPSI and Premium Status with the ISR/Oldenburg NA. Leonberg's son, Liberando VT, was licensed by the RPSI, and another son, Lancalot, received an 8.5 on movement from the RPSI as a youngster.
Leonberg showcases expressive movement paired with elasticity and power. He's been successful through Grand Prix dressage, with wins in 2010 at the Palm Beach Dressage Derby CDI and the Gold Coast Finale I CDI.
According to Anne Sparks, CEO of Horses Unlimited, "Leonberg's oldest offspring are now working under saddle and every one of them is showing athletic movement, trainability and great talent over fences." She added, "Moreover, the beauty and appeal produced in his offspring set them up for success in front of today's judging panels."
As breeder of a National Champion, several licensed stallions, and many approved mares, Sparks reflects on the significance of Leonberg's approval with the Hanoverian Verband. "This pedigree has produced a remarkable individual athlete in Leonberg, and is ideal for crossing with today's mares. He will genetically improve mares that need more uphill confirmation and add expression and elasticity to their movement." He passes on a steady temperament and fabulous work ethic to his offspring. Sparks continued, "With his sire's blood, Leonberg is a great horse to refine a mare, adding his lightness and elegance."
Breeders looking to breed to Hanoverian stallions now have four licensed stallions to choose from at Horses Unlimited: Leonberg, Pik L, Wild Dance, and Glorioso Noir. Also standing at Horses Unlimited is the Oldenburg stallion Noble Champion and the RPSI stallion Galante HU. All of Horses Unlimited's stallions are licensed for breeding with multiple books and registries.
