International Show Jumping of Caen - French Dominate


CSI3*: Julien Epaillard (FRA) winner of the 2nd Grand Prix qualifier
Normandy, France - 54 riders had decided to take part in the big class on Saturday evening (23.000€), and many wanted to qualify for the Grand Prix on Sunday. One of them was Julien Epaillard (FRA). The Norman rider is THE specialist of speed and he showed it again in front of his home audience.

N°9 to go with Mister Davier, he was 6 seconds ahead of the provisional leader, Eric Février (FRA). Every riders tried to improve his performance but none succeeded in it. The nearest were two young women, Stephanie Brugman (NED) and Lauren Hough (USA), finally 2nd and 3rd. 40 riders will now participate to the 3 stars Grand Prix tomorrow at 4:30pm.

Earlier in the evening, Karim El Zoghby (EGY) did almost the same as Julien. 4th to go with Jument Dufee, he kept the lead till the end of the Best Western – Hôtel Malherbe Trophy (1,45m). Eiken Sato (JPN), the Stephex Stables' rider, missed it for only 4 hundredth second riding Weezer. The best French rider was no one else than the current twice National Champion, Alexis Gautier (FRA), 3rd with his new Anglo-arabian stallion Orient du Py.

CSI2*: Loud and clear for the French riders
French riders dominated the 2 stars classes. Early in the morning, Thomas Rousseau (FRA) won the small class (1,35m) with Veronique KWPN, in front of Axelle Grossin (FRA) / Karek Kat 2nd and Jean Le Monze (FRA) / Qaresse de Kreisker 3rd. In the Eric Mondage saddlery Trophy (1,40m), Jacques Bonnet was holding the 1st place till Cédric Angot (FRA) started on Davendy S to lower the time under 32''. Nicolina Savback (SWE) realized the best performance for the foreign contingent riding Windsor T.

The big 2* class took place in the afternoon. 57 riders tried to get their ticket for the Grand Prix on Sunday. We could have applauded the first completely feminine podium, lead by the French young rider Margaux Rocuet (followed by Jemma Kirk (GBR) and Charlotte Gastaldi (FRA). But today was the day of...Cédric Angot! Riding the Selle Français gelding Picolo, he broke Margaux's time by few hundredth seconds.
