Humor Me and Havens Schatt Give The Judges Something to Smile About

Wellington, FL - March 17, 2011 - Week 10 of the FTI Winter Equestrian Festival, which runs through April 3, is back in action today as hunter riders secure their championships in the green hunter divisions. The Second Year Green Working Hunters hosted nine entries this week, but Havens Schatt came out the victor with her mount Humor Me.

Humor Me, a seven-year-old Holsteiner gelding by Casall, is owned by Bruce Duchossois of Aiken, South Carolina. Duchossois purchased Humor Me as a stallion in 2009. However, last year after some tough decision making, Duchossois and trainer Schatt decided to geld Humor Me. "I wanted to leave him a stallion because he was not a bad stallion, but I just felt when I was trying to train him he would get really worried," explained Schatt. She went on to add, "I thought for the future of the horse that was the best idea, and we collected him first, so he's got a few babies."

Schatt and Humor Me had a very successful week, winning four out of five classes to take the division's championship in the E.R. Mische Grand Hunter Ring. The winning pair was third in one over fences class, and took the blue ribbon in the under saddle, and also in the remaining over fences classes.

"He's really coming into his own now, he's simple, he knows his job, and he comes up here, he does it, he goes home, and he waits until the next time," smiled Schatt. There are high hopes for Humor Me in the upcoming summer season. Schatt explained that they will continue on to Kentucky after their season in Wellington is over. They also hope to take Humor Me to the Devon Horse Show. After that, owner Bruce Duchossois will take over the reins and begin showing in the Adult Amateur Hunters.

A close second to Humor Me's tricolor win was the reserve champion winner. Casallo, a seven-year-old Oldenburg gelding, was ridden to the reserve championship by owner Robert Crandall. Crandall owns Casallo in partnership with John Jedakis. The pair secured their prize by being awarded two seconds, a third, and a fourth over fences, and a fourth under saddle.

Tomorrow, as the weekend approaches, the Adult Amateur riders will continue competing for numerous championships. Also, make sure to stay tuned for results from other highlighted events happening this week at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center.
