Traverse City, MI - July 3, 2013 - The 10th Annual Horse Shows By the Bay Hunter/Jumper Series kicked off today at the Flintfields Horse Park in Traverse City, MI. Hosted each year in one of the nation's premier vacation destinations, Horse Shows by the Bay welcomed a roster of competitors from more than 35 states, Canada and Mexico.

Opening day featured action in all five rings, with the Grand Prix Ring streaming live thanks to ShowNet LLC and this week's free streaming partner, HRTV. They're bringing the action right to your screen every day, beginning at 8 a.m. Go to www.horseshowsbythebay.com and click on "Watch It Live."

Christian Trice, decked out in Horse Shows by the Bay colors orange and blue, had the honor of winning the first blue ribbon of the 2013 season. He handled Same Page to the top spot in the Green Conformation Hunter Model for Larry Glefke, Kenneth Garber and Golden Oaks Farm, Inc.

Rider Kelley Farmer, of Keswick, VA, started her Horse Shows by the Bay season with a bang today. She swept all of the over fences classes in the Lisa A.H. Cudahy-sponsored Green Conformation Hunters and the Missy & Doug Smith-sponsored Regular Conformation Hunters aboard Kenneth Garber and Larry Glefke's Scripted.

The elegant, dark brown warmblood (Sandro Hit-Diane) also topped the Regular Conformation Model with Larry Glefke handling for a total of five blue ribbons.

Trainer Heather Irvine brought Ice Time to the Green Conformation ring for owner Maria Yzerman and took back top ribbons to hang on the Hillside Farm banner.

Irvine, Bloomfield Hills, MI, has been a show supporter and sponsor since the early years and enjoys her trip North each summer.

"I love the area, and I'm from Michigan, so it's nice to see Michigan being a highlight of the show season. It's nice to be here for the summer. We've watched the show evolve from the other venue to Flintfields Horse Park, and it's exciting to see this facility improve each year. It's similar to Lake Placid [New York], and I think it's one of the prettiest areas around. The weather's great, too. Sunny and 75 degrees today!"

Irvine praised Flintfields Horse Park owner Karin Flint on her passion for the sport and vision for the future.

"Karin Flint is amazing.   She wants this place to be a premier facility," added Irvine. "And I think we need it for Michigan."

Each year Irvine sponsors the Hillside Farm High-Score Hunter Awards, which are presented during Series II as part of the USHJA/WCHR Awards Program.

"We really want to support the show here at Horse Shows by the Bay," she noted. "Karin Flint had a passion with the Detroit/Motor City shows and now she's brought her passion here. We are thrilled to have four weeks of top shows here. We don't have very many horse shows in Michigan and none of this quality. This is it!

Highlights tomorrow include the $2,500 CMJ Sporthorse 1.40m Jumper Speed Stake, the $1,000 USHJA Pre-Green Incentive Stake Class, sponsored by PJP Farm, Inc., the ASPCA Maclay, Pessoa/USEF Medal and the conclusion of the open hunter sections.

At the conclusion of the first day, show manger and owner Alex Rheinheimer, expressed her excitement with the 10th anniversary edition.

"Each year we work hard to improve the show, and we've never had a first day go so smoothly," said Rheinheimer. "The facility has never looked better, and the staff--some who have been here since the first show--worked tirelessly to this end. Today, I didn't receive one phone call about a problem! In addition, the live streaming went off without a hitch, and I'm thrilled that we achieved this long-time goal."
