Why is it so hard to find good help in the horse business? According to the 2005 economic study by the American Horse Council Foundation, the equine industry in the U.S. supports a total of over 1.4 million full-time equivalent jobs. The British Horse Industry Confederation (BHIS) in 2009 indicated that the equestrian sector is the largest sporting employer in the UK. Racing and riding together employ 70,000 direct full-time jobs with indirect employment adding another 220–270,000 people.
Yet horse business owners consistently rank finding good employees as one of their top business issues. In order to address this common horse business concern, on March 14, 2011 Equestrian Professional.com will host “Finding, Managing and Keeping GREAT Employees for Your Horse Business” a free webinar to help horse professionals identify real life, practical solutions to this age old problem.
This seminar will discuss essential policies and procedures that horse professionals can use to help build a strong support team for their horse businesses. The speaker, Jane Seigler, will explain why it’s important to clearly identify a position, how to write a job description, how to fill that position with the best candidate, and how to motivate employees to maximize superior performance in their role. There will also be suggestions on how to make a job posting more attractive to a potential employee, and considerations an employer should take into account when creating a new position and when interviewing for it.
Finding, Managing and Keeping GREAT Employees for Your Horse Business will take place on Monday, March 14th 2011 at 5:00 pm Pacific, 7:00 pm Central or 8:00 pm Eastern. This event can be attended via phone or computer and is free to all horse professionals but you must register to attend.
