Saugerties, New York - In addition to finding a home away from home at HITS-on-the-Hudson in Saugerties, New York, during the nine-week series of competitions, exhibitors can also find a home away from home in between shows as HITS is pleased to announce the return of its popular layover-stabling program for 2010.
Centrally located within a short driving distance from many of the Spring and Summer shows in the North East, HITS will offer discounted packages at its HITS Saugerties facility that include permanent stabling, full service RV hook-ups, paddocks and abundant riding area. For many, traveling back and forth to multiple horse shows becomes cumbersome. Layover stabling at HITS-on-the-Hudson provides a solution for those looking to not only save money, but also enjoy great footing, true hospitality, and top-notch accommodations for both horse and rider.
Renowned high performance rider and trainer Candice King based her show barn out of Saugerties last summer and plans to take advantage of this incredible offer again in 2010. "The layover accommodations and hospitality at HITS were incredible," King said. "It was very convenient to be based in Saugerties from May through September, and have a central location for our entire summer competition schedule. The staff was incredibly helpful and saw to all of our needs. It was a pleasant experience for the horses and my staff, and we are looking forward to taking advantage of this great opportunity again for the 2010 season."
Reflecting on her experience at Saugerties last year, King recalled "we stayed in the camper and rented a house for the staff, which was walking distance to the horse show it was perfect. I have to say; Tom [Struzzieri], Kristen [Vale-Mosack], Brian [Morris] and the whole HITS team were always there to help me out no matter what I needed. I'm sponsored by Purina and HITS even had the Purina feed for my horses. It was such a pleasant stay in between shows for the horses and for me. There are great places to eat and shop in Saugerties and Woodstock; my favorite place for dinner there is New World, the food is amazing and I love the atmosphere."
King also plans on accruing the prize money she will need to qualify for the Pfizer $1 Million Grand Prix in September by competing in the 14 Pfizer Million qualifiers offered throughout the eight week series in Saugerties. "I will definitely be shooting for the Pfizer Million," King said, "I think it is fantastic for the sport. The general public doesn't have much of an idea of our sport, and so it is great that Pfizer has stepped in to help us, and that Tom (Struzzieri) and the HITS Staff are putting in the effort to have an event like the Pfizer Million that will really bring light to our sport in this country."
Geoff Case also plans to return to Saugerties in 2010, and said "Saugerties is a fantastic place to layover, the footing is really nice, the permanent stabling is great, and for me, for what it costs, you can't lease stalls in NY for that price, so it is very cost effective." Case added, "The fact that Tom gives us free run of the paddocks is really nice, and I love the town - we had a great time there last year. In fact, I love the area so much that I've now taken over the stables at Sleepy Hollow Country Club, so we will be in New York all summer, and plan on doing all of the Saugerties Shows."
Whether riders wish to layover for a week or a month, HITS offers a wide variety of custom packages to suit the needs of all schedules from May 1 through September 30. During their time at HITS Saugerties, riders can take advantage of spacious permanent stalls, beautiful permanent paddocks, full service RV hookups, and abundant riding arenas.
For those not utilizing an RV hookup, a wide array of lodging options are available in and around Saugerties, including hotels, B&B's, and rental homes.
Saugerties, New York, is an adorable town with much to offer. Guests can enjoy a vast array of shops, activities, and attractions including spas, golf, hiking, kayaking, shopping, and fine dining.
