Normandy, France - This new edition of the International Show Jumping of Caen (Normandy, France) started this Friday 21 October a 8:30am with the CSI 2 stars competition. The French riders won the small and the big class. Cédric Hurel (FRA) took the ribbons in the first one with Paola du Terroir. And the current World and European silver medalist Olivier Guillon (FRA) brought back home the first prize in the big class riding the Selle Français stallion Magic d'Elle. The 25 best riders of this competition are already qualified for the Grand Prix on Sunday. The 2* medium class went to the young British rider James Billigton on Laredo II.
In Caen this weekend, there is a 3 stars competition too, with 2 classes per day. At around 6:00pm, 56 riders took part into the small class « Jump Citroën DS4 » Trophy. After an incredible course, the Brazilian Francisco Mesquita Musa took the lead...and remained 1st during all the class. Till the last rider to go, Aymeric de Ponnat, who have been the only one to improve Francisco's time.
In the second 3 stars class (and the last of this 1st day), 14 riders qualified for the jump off. First to go, Pénélope Leprevost (FRA) and Maestro de la Loge did the perfect clear round. The Norman public thought that the current World and European Champion could be the new « queen of Normandy ». But Harrie Smolders (NED) and his fast Regina Z realized a real demonstration, stopping the clock at 32''32! Harrie remained unbeatable till the end. Yannick Gaillot (FRA) / Manoir des Peux finished 3rd, Vladimir Tuganov (RUS) / Bluebuster 4th (after an impressive tour), Francisco Mesquita Musa (BRA) / Premier Xindoctro Metodo 5th and Amy Graham (AUS) / Bella Baloubet 6th.
