It's Christmas Eve, as we wait for the flurries the weatherman has promised. With three grandchildren from Florida who arrived in Kentucky shortly after the last snow fall mostly melted, we are hoping for the best. It's time to take just a short break from our work duties to enjoy family, home, and most of all our health and happiness as the big year of 2010 comes to a close. Last night we went to our home away from home during the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, Spindletop Hall in Lexington just across the street from the beautiful Kentucky Horse Park. After a perfect dinner as always, we went to the Southern Lights Tour of the Horse Park, waiting in a line just as long as the peak parking days during the Alltech Games.
It was worth the wait as we saw animated horses in lights racing, jumping, and sledding along with the traditional holiday theme. We went winding our way through the park in our warm and cozy truck with holiday music on the radio and all of us joining in song. As we went past the stadium where it all happened for over 500,000 visitors and participants during the Games, there was a sense that the 2010 WEG was just the launching pad for so much to come for equestrian sport in America, and Kentucky is truly the Horse Capitol of the World, with the Kentucky Horse Park as the "home office".
In the upcoming weeks we have some exciting news about what is coming in 2011. We have hours of work awaiting us after our short holiday break with many profiles and stories of equestrian professionals. It is going to be a full year of travel, event coverage, and behind the scenes development as we continue to invest in staying ahead of the technological curve. But for the next few days, it's about family, friends, although you can still count on something new daily, our gift to you!
It is also a time when many of us try to take care of some business for the upcoming year. Traditionally that is why we at Phelps/Hathaway Enterprises Inc. plan to stick close to home over the holidays and to be available for the inevitable rush of calls and questions. Whether it is setting up or upgrading insurance coverage, marketing needs for the coming year, or for many of you, the decision to not stick out the winter months in the great white north but to find a refuge in Florida or Southern California after all! So if we can be of any service whatsoever, we are around. Feel free to e-mail me firstname.lastname@example.org, because we are here, and it's cold outside, so I am on the computer most of the time!
