Last weekend, the Hanoverian and Trakehner Stallion Licensing took place in Verden and Neumunster, Germany. Never before have such high prices been paid for graded stallions in the auction following the licensing.
At the 2005 Hanoverian Stallion Licensing, the champion of the lot was a dark bay Hofrat x De Niro colt bred by Friedrich Oppermann and presented by Heinrich Giesselmann. He sold at auction for an all time record of 800,000 euro to the syndicate Paul Schockemohle/Blue Hors Stud. The 800,000 euro purchase price shattered the previous record of 515,000 euro, which Doug and Louise Leatherdale paid for His Highness in 2002. The Schockemohle/Blue Hors syndicate also purchased the reserve champion, a black colt by Prince Thatch xx x Wenzel for 580,000 euro.
Americans Doug and Louise Leatherdale acquired Herzendieb, the champion of the 2005 Trakehner Licensing. This bay stallion by Tambour x Tivano sold for a Trakehner-record-selling price of 275,000 euro to the United States, but will be standing at stud at Jens Meyer's in Dorum, Germany.
