Hooge Mierde, September 2006 - The Global Dressage Forum is the number one meeting place of trainers, riders, judges, dressage officials and scientists in the world. During the 6th edition of the Forum, on October 30 and 31 2006 the organisers, Academy Bartels, the International Dressage Trainers Club and the Dutch Equestrian Federation, will present clinics by Olympic champion Anky van Grunsven and ‘horse whisperer’ Monty Roberts. Other famous trainers and scientist are on the planning. The Organising Committee, on which the Finish top trainer and rider Kyra Kyrklund is the newest member, has noticed last years criticism in the equestrian press, and will stimulate debate by introducing a forum discussion after every clinic. A 5-day program, including a visit to the very successful Equine Elite auction on 28 October and a visit to Anky van Grunsven ’s stables in Erp on 29 October, is presented as the ‘Dressage Week of the Year’.
Kyra Kyrklund's Popularity Brings Her Return
Different aspects of training will be discussed. After every clinic a panel of experts will evaluate theory and practice. The panel discussions will be guided by international rider Richard Davison. Top trainer Kyra Kyrklund will be involved in most of the panels. She turned out to be the most influential and popular trainer during the first 5 editions of the Global Dressage Forum. Kyra has been participating in 5 Olympic Games, and was placed 5th in Seoul with Matador and 5th in Barcelona with Edinburg. During the World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Kyra presented her horse Max. Again she was placed among the top 10 of the world. In the kür the combination finished in 7th place. Not only is Kyra Kyrklund the most experienced rider in the current group of international riders, she is also the most versatile of all trainers. Her contacts with the Russian training, circus training, sport psychology etcetera, have proved her to be one of the most ‘open minded’ persons in modern training.
Former World Cup director and Forum organiser Joep Bartels says: ‘We have invited Kyra Kyrklund for our program committee as open evaluation and discussion are considered as necessary elements for the development of the sport. Most of the time discussion has only taken place through the equestrian press. We want to open up that discussion in the in crowd of dressage.
After the clinics there will be more time for evaluation and discussion by the panel and questions from the audience. Constructive criticism and open debate will be encouraged’.
Besides the evaluation by the panel, the facilities of the Global Dressage Forum will also include a Question Corner were participants can give their reactions or questions during the breaks. The organisation is convinced that the programme improvements and speakers will fulfil the intention of the Global Dressage Forum: to provide a platform for open discussion, and to create a common dressage language.
Training methods were examined and a FEI seminar took place in Lausanne last year. The Global Dressage forum will focus on those developments. Next to Anky van Grunsven, German team rider Hubertus Schmidt, top ten on the FEI World Ranking List, will show his approach of training horses in a demonstration. Sport psychologist Rico Schuijers and zoölogist Andrew McLean will present the latest facts from the scientific world. Great surprise at the Global Dressage Forum 2006 is the original ‘horse whisperer’ Monty Roberts. He will demonstrate his view on training horses in theory and in a practical session. The name of another great trainer, presenting a clinic, will be published in a few weeks.
To make the visit to the Netherlands even more valuable, the organisation of the Global Dressage Forum is presenting a possibility to combine different activities. During the ‘Dressage week of the year’ the organisation offers a visit to the second Equine Elite auction, organised by the Equine Elite foundation at the facilities of Academy Bartels in Hooge Mierde, on Saturday 28 October. On Sunday will a stable visit by bus to Anky van Grunsven Dressage Stables in Erp is planned. Double Olympic Champion van Grunsven will show her stables and explain about her stable management.
