Gil Merrick who has been with the USEF first as the USEF Managing Director, Dressage Sport Programs, since October 11, 2005 tendered his resignation in writing Wednesday August 26. Merrick, who was promoted to Assistant Executive Director, Sport Programs, sent volunteer members of the USEF Eligible Athlete, High Performance and Technical committees with the following statement:
Jim Wolf and John Long sent out notices today to the staff and board members of the USEF letting them know that I have tendered my resignation as Assistant Executive Director for Sport Programs. I have the opportunity now to pursue some projects that will take my career in a different direction and although I will miss working with all of the friends I have made here at USEF, I am also excited about what lies ahead for the future.

I will be working through September 11th to help manage the transition of my responsibilities to other staff.
I wish to thank each and every one of you for the many hours of hard work that you contribute to the sport through your work as volunteers and for the partnership that you offer to Jennifer, Jenny, and Maureen in managing our programs. I have had some wonderful experiences during my four year tenure with the organization and am thankful for having had the experience of working for one of the finest national governing bodies within the Olympic movement. Thank you all for the important role you play in making it that.
