In her first year competing in the Young Rider division, Geena Sturzebecher, from Louisville, Kentucky headed to Florida with a leased horse and her trainer with dreams and the goal of earning a spot of the North American Young Rider Team for her Region 2. This past weekend at the Winter Equestrian Festival Dressage Classic CDI***, Sturzebecher and former Young Rider Nicole Levy’s stylish Korrado, rode to victory in all three FEI Young Rider tests bringing them one step closer to that dream. But that’s not all the almost eighteen year old who has been training with Louisville based Dressage trainer and rider,
She also earned her USDF Silver Medal by earning solid scores with a 65.7% in the Young Rider Team Test, a 65% in the Individual and a 65.2 in the Freestyle. Sturzebecher and the seventeen year old Dutch Warmblood Korrado topped their second place at the Wellington Dressage Classic CDI in February. "I am so lucky to have this opportunity to ride a horse of this caliber and train with Chrissa, none of this would be possible without Chrissa and I am so thankful to her and her training! I am also grateful to Nikki for allowing me this wonderful opportunity to lease Korrado."
Hoffman who has spent the last two winter seasons in Wellington, Florida speaks proudly of the student she has been working with for three years. “It has been amazing to watch her progression. She is super talented and fun to teach.” Sturzebecher, who is currently being home schooled so she can spend the 2010 winter in training in Florida will be entering the University of Kentucky in the fall near Hoffman’s home base Glenfield Farm.
The Young rider program in America has many devoted and dedicated students of dressage. Providing opportunities like the one Levy did by leasing her horse to Geena Sturzebecher is becoming the cornerstone of the program’s success. More owners are encouraged to get involved in this win win situation.
