Breda (NL) – After months of thorough investigation and consultation with all parties involved, the organisation of Outdoor Brabant made the decision to add the national jumping and dressage competitions, that normally take place during Outdoor Brabant, as side events to the FEI World Driving Championship Four-in-Hand.
Because the World Championship is an exceptional comprehensive event that draws many athletes and fans from around the world to Breda, the choice has been made to cancel the other international discipline: eventing.
“The organisation of Outdoor Brabant and the World Driving Championship Four-in-Hand made several important decisions,” says Maarten van der Heijden, Technical Director KNHS. “We are pleased with the focus on the World Championship this year and the solid strategy for the future. Our sport needs qualitative and large international events in the Netherlands.“
“The World Championship Four-in-Hand will be a major happening that brings many spectators,” says president Cees Meeuwis.
“It’s all about the World Championship this year. We want to do justice to the agreements we made with the KNHS, the FEI and the athletes. With the event taking place following after the Olympic Games and our profound focus on the World Championship Four-in-Hand, the Eventing competitions were threatened to be overshadowed and we need to do this spectacular discipline justice. Eventing is our other international focus discipline that deserves our fullest attention. This year we will not present Eventing but it will return in full glory to Outdoor Brabant next year.”
The program of the World Championship Four-in-Hand consists of two days of dressage on Thursday and Friday, the marathon on Saturday and the final test for the World Championship titles, the cones on Sunday. The national jumping and dressage competitions, equestrian shows and demonstrations are side events.
